Salem, IN: Sherman Bear Hensley, age 93, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. He was born in Ewing, Virginia on March 17, 1927 to Noble Henry and Nancy Jane (Ramsey) Hensley. Sherman married Mandy LouAnn Craig on August 11, 1951 and he was the father of three children. He is a veteran of the 1504 US Army Air Force Base Unit. Sherman was employed by, and retired from, Smith Cabinet Company, Salem, IN. He enjoyed country and bluegrass music, horseback riding, UK Basketball, baseball and especially, Little League Baseball.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Mandy LouAnn; two sons, David and Charles Sherman Hensley; four brothers and five sisters.
Sherman is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Hensley-Meredith; Robin (Bucky) Sprouse, whom he raised; eight grandkids, Beth (Kyle) Mundy, Cyndi (Chris) Benskin, Chris (Heidi) Rippy, Helen (Darrell) Lowe, Chuck Hensley II, Hanna (Brandon) Bambusch, Kayla Hensley, and Derrick Hensley; 16 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Thelma Hensley; and close family friend, Heather Brown.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Love Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again, on Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 10 a.m. till time of service. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Salem, IN. Love Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
