Ruth B. (Perkins) Johnson

Salem, IN, Ruth B. (Perkins) Johnson, age 80, passed away on April 22, 2021 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, IN surrounded by her husband and daughters. She was born to Henry and Daisy (Reynolds) Perkins on August 23, 1940 in Estill County, KY. Ruth is the wife of Jerry Johnson of Salem, IN. She graduated college from Indiana University Southeast with a B.S. in secondary education, Ruth and her husband worked and retired as a truck driver, which gave them the opportunity to see most of the United States.  She was the author of four books on her family’s history and genealogy with one being listed with the Library of Congress. Ruth enjoyed quilting, gardening, travelling, and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy (Perkins) Cooper, and Helen (Perkins) Bowers.

Ruth is survived by her husband; four daughters, Sherri Knoy of Fredericksburg; Sharon (Gary) Huff of Fredericksburg, IN; Sheryl (Charlie) Holman of Pekin; Shawna (Scott) Graf of Pekin, IN; two stepsons Jerry (Beth) Johnson Jr. of Boonville, IN,  Joe Johnson of Boonville, IN; two stepdaughters, Angie (Sam) Purtilar of Louisville, KY, Vicki Woosley of Owensboro, KY; two brothers, Jim (Colleen) Perkins of Spring Hill, FL, Bill Perkins of Hamilton, OH; one sister, Glenda Perkins of Vevay, IN; sixteen grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Monday April 26, 2021 at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, IN. Visitation will be held from 4p.m. to 8p.m. on Sunday April 25, 2021, at Love Funeral Home and again on April 26, 2021 from 9a.m. until time of service. In honor of Ruth’s memory and love of animals donations can be made to an Humane Society of your choice. Interment will be at Kays Chapel Cemetery in Fredericksburg, IN.
