Richard Lynn Jones

Richard Lynn Jones, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Palmyra, Indiana, on January 13, 2026.

Richard was born on October 28, 1945, in New Albany, Indiana, to Elbert “Bud” Jones and Lois (Lamb) Jones. The family lived in Greenville, Indiana.

Richard spent his working life in industries that reflected his strong work ethic and lifelong appreciation for automobiles and machinery. He was employed with Skilton Construction as a heavy equipment operator and later worked in the automotive industry, serving as Sales Manager for John Jones Auto Group and as General Manager at MJ Auto. His knowledge, leadership, and dedication earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike.

Outside of work, Richard greatly enjoyed fishing and attending car races and remained passionate about the automotive world throughout his life. He loved spending time with his family and friends and doting on his grandchildren. Richard was a proud papaw who enjoyed watching their sporting events and was always there to support anything they did or participated in. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his commitment to hard work, and his enduring interests.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim Jones; and a sister, Janice (Jones) Gibson.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary (Fessel) Jones; his son, Mike Jones, and daughter-in-law, Dawn (Weatherford) Jones; his cherished grandchildren, Cora Jones and Cade Jones; a sister, Sharon (Jones) Haub (Gene); a brother, John Jones (Paula); and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, Indiana, on Tuesday, January 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday, January 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow the Wednesday visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
