Norma Fay (Burkhart) DeMent

Norma Fay (Burkhart) DeMent, age 94, of Greenville, IN, passed away on October 19, 2023. She was born on October 8, 1929, to Jesse and Ruby Burkhart in Georgetown, IN. Norma attended New Albany High School and later became a dedicated housewife, caring for her family.

On November 21, 1948, Norma married Howard DeMent, and the couple made their home in Laconia, IN. Norma was a skilled seamstress and embroidery enthusiast. She found joy in tending to her yard and was a faithful member of her church.

Norma is survived by her son, Donald Keith (Jane) DeMent, her daughter, Geraldine Louise Neely, her brother, Kenny Burkhart, and her sister, Irene Vance, four grandchildren, Jeffrey DeMent, John DeMent, Jason Neely, Jennifer Neely, as well as two great-grandchildren, Cole Neely and Alex DeMent.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Farnsley Burkhart, her mother, Ruby Mae Burkhart, her husband, Howard Jason DeMent, five brothers, Earl Burkhart, Bill Burkhart, Harold Burkhart, Dallas "Gene" Burkhart, Glenn Burkhart, her sister, Silvia Skaggs, 

Norma was a devoted member of Union Chapel Christian Church in Laconia, IN.

Visitation for Norma DeMent will be held from 2pm to 8pm on Sunday, October 22, 2023, and a gain on Monday October 23, 2023 from 11am to 12pm at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, IN.

Funeral services to celebrate Norma's life will take place at 12pm on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Norma will be laid to rest in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenville, IN.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Union Chapel Christian Church at 8725 Union Chapel Road, Laconia, IN 47135 in honor of Norma DeMent's memory.

Norma DeMent's legacy of love and dedication to her family and faith will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
