Mike Smith

Mike Smith, age 73, of Palmyra, Indiana, passed away on October 31, 2024. Born on May 11, 1951, in Caneyville, Kentucky, he was the son of Lewie and Ruby (Wilson) Smith. Mike married Helen (DeVore -Vance) Smith on June 3, 1978, and together they built a loving life.

Mike dedicated much of his career to the Louisville Ladder Company before retiring as a Master Woodworker with Koetter Woodworking in 2022. His craftsmanship was only rivaled by his passion for carpentry, a skill that brought him joy and fulfillment throughout his life.

A  member of the Masons Shively Lodge, Mike enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, or coon hunting. He found happiness in the simple pleasures, often spending hours on the front porch swing he built, savoring the company of family and the comfort of home. He was a fan of classic television, particularly fond of "Gunsmoke" and "The Andy Griffith Show."

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lewie and Ruby Smith; three brothers, W.C. "Icky" Smith, Harold "Buck" Smith, and Tom Smith; and one Angel baby.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Smith; his son, Erik (Hannah) Smith; one brother, Coy Smith; and two sisters, Betty Jo Metsinger and Sue Ann Clifford.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 8, 2024, at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Cremation will take place, with interment in the Palmyra Cemetery.
