Obituary

Melvin " Joe"  Stone, age 85, of Greenville,IN, passed away at his home on May 14, 2023.

He was born on March 5, 1938 to Herbert and Mae (Myer) Stone in Louisville, KY. Melvin worked for General Electric for thirty seven and a half years in various jobs until his retirement in 1993. He married Mary (Bowling) Stone on April 24, 1992. Melvin and Mary lived in Greenville, IN. He was a Veteran of the Navy, Melvin was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church in Georgetown, IN, and the Masonic Sunset Lodge in Louisville, KY. He worked several jobs after his retirement with John Jones, Hubers,and the YMCA. Melvin Always brought a smile to a room with his witty jokes and friendly personality, this coined him the nickname "Melvis" while he was employed as the oldest lifeguard at the YMCA in New Albany, IN. He enjoyed being outdoors, cooking on the grill, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Melvin is precede in death by his parents; one daughter, Sherri Farias; as well as two siblings.

He  is survived by Wife, Mary Stone; one sister, Diana (Gary) Pullen, several children, grandchildren, and a large extended family. 

Cremation was chosen with Love Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 
A private family service will be held at a later date.
