Joyce Rae (Wagner) Crabtree

Joyce Rae (Wagner) Crabtree also known as (Sweet Mommy), age 82, of Salem, Indiana, passed away on August 19, 2024. Born on August 31, 1941, in Bedford, Indiana, Joyce was the daughter of Jim Wagner and Nola Pearl (Atchason) Richardson.

Joyce devoted 28 years of her life to caring for others at Meadow View Nursing Home. Later she worked for herself and became a cherished caregiver to many. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life in raising her grandson Travis Spicer; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother, known for her warm heart, infectious laughter, and exceptional cooking. Joyce's kindness and dedication made her a true angel to those fortunate enough to know her.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Lori Spicer; sons Duane Spicer and Tim Spicer; sisters Jeanetta Mae Vander Myde and Paula Kay; brothers Jean Paul Reed, Jimmy Bruntjen, and Jay Bruntjen; and two grandchildren, Christopher Bary and Jeremy Bary.

She leaves behind the love of her life and husband, Chester L. Crabtree, Sr., of Salem, Indiana; daughters Tammy Hill of Salem, IN, and Sherri (David Reel) Spicer of Milltown, IN; son Gary Spicer of Salem, IN; eight grandchildren: James Spicer, Dustin Spicer, Jason Burton, Daniele (Michael) Abell, Michael Bary, Jennifer Bary, Jared Spicer, Travis Spicer, six great-grandchildren, Ryan Arnold, Candace Bary, Brianna Bary, Briley Bary, Jacob Byrd, Gauge Spicer, Jazylan Abell, Aaryian Spicer, As well as a dog and faithful companion "Sassy" and five rescued cats she adored.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, Indiana. Funeral services will take place from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, also at Love Funeral Home. Joyce will be laid to rest in Palmyra Cemetery.
