Jose "Joey" German Cortez

New Albany, IN, Jose “Joey” German Cortez, age 31, passed away on November 16, 2022, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, IN. He was born on November 14, 1991 to Alfonso and Darcy (Avery) Cortez in Louisville Ky. Joey was engaged to Shirley Morrison on November 16, 2017. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in New Salisbury, IN. Joey enjoyed music, podcast, University of Louisville Basketball, video games, and caring for his beloved dog. He loved joking around and spending time with his friends and family.

He is preceded In death by his parents.

Joey is survived by his fiancé, Shirley Morrison, “step daughter”, Zoey Varney; four sisters, Teresa (Jerry) Cortez, Vonda (Kenneth) Gibson, Rhonda (Shane) Cortez, and twin sister, Cassandra (Andy) McNew; two brothers, Brian (Kelly) Cortez, Ethan (Brie) Naville; several nieces and nephews, one great niece, as well as his faithful companion “Gemini”.   

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday November 20, 2022, at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, IN. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service on the same day.  A private Interment at Big Springs Cemetery in Pekin, IN, will be at a later date. Cremation was chosen with Love Funeral Home in charge of services.
