On August 1, 2023, at his home surrounded by family, Jerry Michael Milby went to be with his Lord. He was born on August 21, 1951 to Juella and Harlan Milby in Green County, KY. His family moved to Louisville when he was young and in 1969 he graduated from PRP High School and enlisted in the United States Army. Jerry was very proud to have served and been assigned to the Army Security Agency stationed in West Berlin with the specialized role of intercepting communications in morse code. Upon his return from Berlin he settled in Louisville, married, and then welcomed his daughter, Blair in 1983.
He made no secret how happy he was to have a little girl, and was the best father from day one. He had many eclectic jobs throughout his life, but the bulk of his career was spent working in the car business as a finance manager. That was how he met the love of his life Anne - she came in to buy a Lincoln. Jerry and Anne found in each other their perfect other half for where their life journeys had placed them and built a beautiful and happy life together over the last 20 years.
Jerry was many things. A devoted son and brother, a wonderful husband, an amazing father and grandfather, a man of faith, grace and quiet confidence, and a positive spirit like no other. He was a dreamer, but also very practical and steady. A Kentucky boy to his core who always loved being in the country - he loved to write songs, collect things, crack a joke, watch a big storm roll in, go fishing, play golf, watch UK win a basketball game, or just spend time watching a good tennis match with Anne on TV. A proud member of Blue River Baptist Church in Depauw, IN, he walked in the ways of Christ. He was kind to everyone and would always listen without judgement. For these qualities and so many more, he was loved immensely by family, friends, and coworkers.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harlan Milby, and stepson, Jefferey Dixion.
He is survived by his mother, Juella Jean Milby, wife Anne Milby, daughter, Blair Milby, son-in-law Karim Nasr, and granddaughter Leena Nasr, his stepson Scott Dixon (Alesha), stepdaughter Joanna Patterson, and step-grandchildren Kenneth Campbell, Zoie Patterson, Ashley Dixon, and Katelyn Smith, as well as four siblings Don Milby (Martha), Connie Spruill (Bruce), Rick Milby (Jenny), Charlotte Milby, and many dear nieces and nephews. He had an endless smile and likely one of the best laughs you ever heard. He is gone too soon and will be missed beyond measure.
Funeral services for Jerry will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Love Funeral Home, 14345 Greene St NE, Palmyra, IN 47164. There will be visitation from 10am until the start of the service. The service will be officiated by Brother Don McCarroll of Blue River Baptist Church. Jerry will be laid to rest at Wilder Cemetery in Harlan, KY in the days following the service. Memorial gifts may be made in the form of contributions to the Brown Cancer Center in Jerry’s name.
