James Monroe “Tennessee” Watkins, age 83, of Palmyra, IN, passed away peacefully at his home on August 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 7, 1941, in Lewisburg, TN, to Homer and Ola Mae (Roland) Watkins, Jim lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, faith, and a deep love for his family and community. A devoted cattle farmer and retired crane operator from Jeff Boat with over 40 years of service, Jim’s life was a testament to his commitment and perseverance.
On September 26, 1964, Jim married Sue Hudson, and together they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage next month. Their enduring partnership was a cornerstone of Jim's life, as was his love for hunting, fishing, farming, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ola Mae Watkins; one daughter, Christina Watkins; and siblings Mabel Main and Billy Watkins.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Watkins; daughters Kim (James Chanley) Watkins and Elisha (Beau) Watkins-Holmes; brother Ricky (BeBe) Watkins; grandchildren Justin Keeling, Jennifer (Ronnie Spells) Watkins, Samantha Knight, Sarah Knight, and Lincoln Holmes; great-grandchildren Jaxon Keeling, Jagger Keeling, Justus Keeling, Gabriel Gahlinger, and Harper Gahlinger; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, IN. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Love Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Palmyra Cemetery.
Jim will be remembered for his humor, kindness, dedication, and the indelible mark he left on those who knew him. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
