Geraldine (McCracken) Goode, age 87, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on December 11, 2023. She was born on October 16, 1936, in Louisville, KY, to Edgar and Marie (Markert) McCracken. Gerry attended Hardinsburg High School and graduated with the class of 1954. She worked in education, serving as an aide at West Washington Elementary and later as a librarian at South Central Area Vocational School.
On May 29, 1965, Gerry married the love of her life, Boyce Goode, and the couple made their home in the Horner's Chapel Area of Fredericksburg. She was a dedicated member of the former Fredericksburg Homemakers Club and served as the secretary and treasurer of Horner’s Chapel Church for over 50 years. Her commitment to her community extended to being a CCD teacher at St. Michaels Church in Bradford, IN, and a member of Palmyra United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the thrift store. Gerry also devoted her time to the Historic Becks Mill, leaving a lasting impact as a volunteer.
She found great joy in brightening the lives of others, especially the residents of local nursing homes. Gerry shared her love for music by playing her dulcimer for them, creating cherished moments of connection and comfort. She was a true servant of Jesus Christ, lovingly caring for family, friends and especially those in need of encouragement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Marie McCracken, her beloved husband, Boyce Goode, two brothers, Leonard McCracken and Phillip McCracken, one half-sister, Laverne Sullivan, and two half-brothers, Buddy McCracken and Leroy McCracken.
Gerry is survived by her daughters, Eva (Bob) Lewandowski and Jean (Rodney) Bienfang, her son, Blaine (Vanessa) Goode, and her cherished grandchildren: Derrick Grigsby, Devan (Meagan) Grigsby, Elizabeth (Louis) Diaz, Mitchell Bienfang, Tori Bienfang, Seth Goode, and Maxximus Goode. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Isla Diaz and Paxton Grigsby, as well as her very best friend, Helen Fraley.
Visitation to celebrate Gerry's life will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 11 am to 4 pm at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, IN. A funeral service will follow at 4 pm on the same day. Cremation was chosen, with Love Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Children's Ministry of Palmyra United Methodist Church and Horner's Chapel Church Fund, in honor of Geraldine's lifelong spirit of giving and community service. Gerry's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. May she rest in eternal peace.
Interment will be held at a later date in Horners Chapel Cemetery.
